Places to Visit near Agra

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri was once the capital of the great empire built by the Mughal emperor Akbar until the year 1585. They had to abandon the city because of its close proximity with the Rajputs, along with the lack of water. After this, Agra became the capital of all the Mughal activities and FatehpurSikri turned into a ghost town. This place was earlier known as Fatahabad derived from the Persian word, ‘Fataha’, which means victory.

Emperor Akbar had built the city with the intentions of honouring the Sufi saint, Salim Chishti. The complex of the palace surrounds the tomb of the saint. Some of the best and historic places to visit in this city are – Jama Masjid, Diwan-I-Khas, Buland Darwaza, Panch Mahal and Jodha bai Palace.

Best Time to Visit

It is said that between the months of October to March is the best time to visit the Fatehpur Sikri. The seasons are transitioning from autumn to winter at this period, leaving the weather pleasant with the heat slowly leaving the path for winter. The atmosphere at this time is the best for sightseeing and you can walk throughout the several bazaars in the Fatehpur Sikri without tiring yourself out too soon.

How to Reach

There are two roads that connect FatehpurSikri to the city of Agra. One of the roads is through Bikaner, the distance in this case is 36.2 kms and the time needed to travel is approximately 53 minutes. The other road goes via SH 39 and Fatehpur Sikri Road. This one is longer with the distance approximately being 47.7 kms and the time taken to travel this distance through here is roughly an hour and 25 minutes.

The last one is 64.3 kms long. It takes an hours and forty minutes and runs through the NH 19/NH 24 and the Bharatpur – Agra Road.

The other one is a road covering a distance of 73.4 kms via Manpur - Sauj Rd/Taj Express Highway and it would take an hour and forty minutes approximately.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Mathura is in the months of October to March. The weather during this time is immensely pleasant. However, during the time of the festival of Holi is one of the best times to visit Mathura to get a glimpse of the special traditions and customs of the Barsana Village. The other path is 76 kms long and goes through Sauj Rd/Taj Express Highway. The time taken on this road is approximately two hours.

It is 152.9 kms long and it takes four and a half hours to reach Gwalior through this road from Agra. The third road is via the Agra - Bah Rd/Fatehabad Road. This also covers a distance of 160.7 kms and takes neqarly four and a half hours.

Best Time to Visit

Keeping the weather in mind, the summers are not the best time to visit the city of Gwalior. It is believed that October to March is the best time to travel to this city because of the pleasant atmosphere here. If you do not mind a little bit of rain, you can also travel there during the months of monsoon.

The Jim Corbett National Park is one of the famous tourist’s spots in India. Not only Indians, but a lot of foreign travellers also visit this place. The park is home to numerous animals. The distance between Agra and the Jim Corbett National Park is a lot. There are three ways to reach the Park from Agra. The first one covers a distance of 303.4 kms through the NH 509 and takes approximately seven hours and ten minutes. The second one is longer at 373.6 kms and takes approximately a little more than seven hours to reach the destination. The third and the final one cover an even longer distance at 395.3 kms and take nearly seven and a half hours to reach the Park.

Best Time to Visit

You can choose any time of the year to visit the Jim Corbett National Park. However, if you want to have the comfortable weather to enjoy your most, the best time, with respect to the temperature, to visit this park is between the months of November and February. It is during the winter season that all the zones in the Park are open and it becomes the easiest to spot the animals during this time.

The third and final one is via the Bikaner - Agra Road and the distance is roughly 195.4 kms.

The best time to visit the city of Alwar is during the months of winter that is during the months of October, November, December, January, February and March. Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is mostly recognized for its Royal Bengal tigers, and is a very popular place in India to witness the nature of these animals in their regular jungle habitat. There are three roads that lead directly to the Ranthambore National Park from the city of Agra. The first one of them is 270 kms long. This leads through the Bharatpur - Bayana - Hindaun - Gangapur Hwy and RJ SH 1 and takes a long six hours to reach the park. The other one covers s distance of 281.4 kms and goes through the NH 23 and the RJ SH 1. When travelling through this road, the time taken to reach the destination is approximately six hours. The final one that connects Agra to the Park is through the Bikaner – Agra Road and is 298.9 kms long. It takes a little more than six hours to reach the park through this road.

Best Time to Visit

The Ranthambore National Parks remains open to the tourists only during the months of October to June. Among these few months, the best time to visit this Park is during the months of October to December, in the winter season. The time within October to April is also the best time to visit the park if you want to see the tigers there. In the hot months of summers, the chances of spotting a tiger is extremely low.
