Dhahanu is a small valley located in Ladakh. Do not confuse it with the coastal town of the same name located in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. This valley is famous for its agricultural wealth that are unique to this region like tomatoes, grapes, apples and others. If you take a closer look to the place, you can find many boulders crashed into homes. As a matter of fact, the locals have built their homes around the boulders.
No Ladakh tour is complete without an adventure tour to Dhahanu valley. There are two villages in this valley, the Beema and Dah. The village tour is famous for enjoying the culture of the land. It is said that the remaining race of Aryans live in these villages. You ought to visit apple and apricot orchards. If you want to watch the fruits being harvested, winter is the right time to visit.
Photography is one of the main activities of tourists. Before you photograph any local or their daily lives, get prior permission. Remember to obey their culture throughout your stay. If you trek during the early morning, you can spot a few birds like black billed magpie and others.The chief of the village arranges interesting folk dance and music performances for the tourists.
The best time to visit the valley is from October to May. During this season, the winter will be at its peak. This climate makes the valley look more beautiful. The place is comparatively warmer than other parts of Ladakh. This climate makes it possible for crops like tomatoes, grape, apple and others to thrive. Summer starts in June and ends in September. The temperature will be mild but the crops will not be at bloom
Dhahanu valley is a rugged hilly slope. The only way to reach every attraction here is trekking. The route is moderately difficult and can be scaled by many. The nearest airport is located in Leh. Leh is 163 km away from Dhahanu valley. Ladakh is connected with many cities via trains and roads.
