How to Complete Char Dham Yatra in 10 Days

Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand is a very famous pilgrimage trip, which is both manual-intensive and richly-beautiful. Most of the temples in this yatra do not have proper road routes. Thus, one has to trek for several hours through the rugged routes of the Himalayas to reach each destination. Unless you take a helicopter ride, it is not possible to cover the complete route in a couple of days.

There are several types of tours with varying routes and times. The most commonly opted one by first-time visitors and moderately fit individuals is the one that spans for ten days, allowing adequate rest and time between any two destinations. If you are planning a ten-day trip, here is a model itinerary.

Day 1: Haridwar to Barkot

The Char Dham Yatra starts at Haridwar. On day one, the trip begins from Haridwar to Barkot. It is easier to reach Haridwar from several parts of the country via different modes of transportation. The route between Haridwar and Barkot stretches for 215 km, and it would take at least 7 hours.

Once you reach Barkot, the rest of the day is free for relaxation. You can find hotels of varying luxury levels in Barkot for overnight stay.

Day 2: Yamunotri trek

You would start the travel from Barkot to Janki Chatti, early in the morning. The road route stops at Janki Chatti. From Janki Chatti, you have to trek to reach Yamunotri Dham, which stands five km away from Janki Chatti. Take a holy dip in the River Yamuna before entering the Yamunotri Dham for rituals.

You will return to Barkot for the night.

Day 3: Uttarkashi

From Barkot, you should trek to reach Uttarkashi. In Uttarkashi, you will find several tourist attractions and pilgrimage sites. The best of all is the Prakateshwar Cave, Lord Vishwanath temple, and others. You can find simple hotels to stay in for the night.

Day 4: Gangotri Trek

The trip to Gangotri from Uttarkashi is quite easy. You can find jeeps and buses from several major destinations, including Uttarkashi. After visiting the Gangotri Temple and nearby pilgrimage sites, you will return to Uttarkashi.

Day 5: Reach Guptkashi

The trek towards Kedarnath Temple is very harsh and long. Thus, it is best to rest for a night at Guptkashi before heading towards Kedarnath Dham. The drive from Uttarkashi to Guptkashi is very short and relaxed.

Once you reach Guptkashi, check into a hotel to rest for the day.

Day 6: Kedarnath Trek

Start the trekking towards Kedarnath Dham. You can find road transportation up to Gauri Kund. From there, tourists have to trek for 14 km to reach Kedarnath temple. The first seven km up to Rambara is quite easy, and the second part is considerably hard. It would take a minimum of seven hours to cover the route. Thus, it is best to start as early as possible.

Day 7: Rudraprayag

After morning prayer and ritual at Kedarnath temple, start the return trekking to reach Gauri Kund. From Gauri Kund, you can find road transportation to reach Rudraprayag.

Day 8: Badrinath Dham

Start the trip from Rudraprayag to Badrinath Dham. You can find road transportation to reach close to the temple. Take a holy bath at Tapt Kund and visit Badrinath Dham, Mata Murty Temple, Bhim Pul, Mana village, and others. Travel to Rishikesh by late evening.

Day 9: Rishikesh

Rishikesh is not a part of Char Dham Yatra, but it is easier to reach Delhi or other major destinations from Rishikesh. Moreover, Rishikesh is also an important pilgrimage site.

Day 10: Rishikesh – Delhi

Travel from Rishikesh to Delhi, which would take 6 hours. Once you reach Delhi, you can find several transportation options to reach your final destination. '
