Srinagar Uttarakhand - An Educational Hub of Garhwal

Dhari Devi Temple

This is located at a distance of about 19 kilometers from Srinagar and is one of the most popular temples of the region. This is situated at the Badrinath-Srinagar highway and moves up to Kaliya Saur. Taking pictures of this idol is prohibited. This temple is there right in the middle of the Alakananda river.

Baikunth Chaturdashi Mela

The annual mela is the most popular festival of the Garhwal region. This happens during the months of  October and November after the hindu festival of the Diwali. This fair has also started gaining popularity as a cultural festival. There are a number of sports competitions and cultural shows organized during the festival. This festival holds a very important place in the life of the people of Garhwal. The entire town is illuminated with lights during this time.

Gola Bazar

This is one of the largest market in Garhwal, Uttarakhand. It serves as a very important commercial place for the people throughout the valley. Keshorai Math Temple

This is quite an ancient temple that is dedicated to lord Vishnu and Goddess Saraswati. This was built in the year 1682 A.D. by a man known by the name of Keshorai. This temple is known for its architectural beauty. This is made of massive boulders and is indeed quite beautiful.

Baba Gorakhnath Caves

According to the legends, there is a massive rock protruding from the mountain slopes. This is where Guru Gorakhnath meditated and met the disciples. The entrance of the cave is extremely small and one has to almost crawl to enter. The cave is completely abandoned and hardly any care is taken. This is however, a great tourist spot away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.

Sri Yantra Tapoo

This is a beautiful spot in the city and is a small patch in the middle of the Alakananda river. This is very similar to an island and it carries a lot of divine energy. This is quite an important shrine for the Srinagar city. This is also a place known for the beautiful crystal blue waters that surrounds it. This place has a mythological as well as a divine relevance. This is a great place to sit and relax and bask under the warm sun.

Chauras Complex

This is a sweet spot that is located in the outskirts of Srinagar. This is heaven for the nature lovers. The main attraction of this place is a flat river bed of the Alakananda river. This is a perfect place where one can relax and indulge in meditation and yoga. You also get the options of kayaking. Apart from this there are also other boating activities that you can opt for. Hill Top:

This is spot that is situated on the top of a hill and it overlooks the city of Srinagar. You get to view the entire valley and also get a bird's eye view of the river. This is quite a short hike from the nearest road. You need a bit of effort to reach here, however, the efforts are quite rewarding. If you wish, you can also return to Srinagar on the same day. But if you want to view the sunrise and the sunset then you should camp over night in order to see a bit of the adventure rolling.

 

Knowing About the Best Time to visit Srinagar

Summer:

During the summer months, this place becomes most amazing. The temperature between the summer months ranges between 35 and 45 degree centigrade. Between the months of April and June it becomes extremely hot and humid.

Monsoon:

The months between August and September witness heavy rainfall. The roads turn slippery and therefore before visiting the place in monsoons, you should check out the weather forecast. There are also times when it gets blocked and this is due to the land slides.

Winter

Between the months of November and March, this city is endowed with ivory snow and the temperature goes down to as low as 2 degree centigrade.

How to reach Srinagar

By Air

The distance between Dehradun airport and Srinagar is 128 kilometers. In order to get to Srinagar, the visitors will have to take a cab from the airport.

By Train

The nearest railway stations are Rishikesh and Haridwar and these are located at a distance of 110 km and 136 kilometers respectively. Once you reach the station, you can either take a taxi or a bus to Srinagar. Rishikesh railway station is not connected to the major cities and therefore people prefer travelling till Haridwar railway station that has a better connectivity.

By road

NH 58 joins Delhi with Mana Pass and Badrinath in the state of Uttarakhand which is quite close to the Indo Tibet border and Srinagar falls in the NH 58 highway that is a major stop for the buses that travel from Delhi to Badrinath via Rishikesh and Haridwar. There are also taxis available from Rishikesh and Haridwar to reach Srinagar.
