Bharat Mata Mandir

Bharat Mata Mandir can be loosely translated as Mother India temple. This temple is located in Varanasi. In this temple, the main deity is the mother India. Instead of statue, an Indian map will be displayed here. This is the first temple dedicated to a specific country, in the world. There are a few other temples dedicated to India but, the other temples portrait the country as a Goddesses riding on a tiger or standing with the Indian flag. In Bharat Mata Mandir, there is no statue inside the temple.

Where is Bharat Mata Mandir Located ?

The temple is located inside the campus of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in Varanasi. The temple is located 8 km away from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The Cantt railway station and Godaulia are located 2 and 3 km away from the temple, respectively. You can find many auto rickshaws from the railway station or the bus stand to reach the temple. It would take around 10 minutes to reach.

Best Time to Visit Bharat Mata Mandir ?

The temple will be at prime beauty throughout the year. The best time to visit is during winter due to the pleasing climate. During Independence Day of India and Republic Day, the temple will be filled with people. The temple is open from morning 9:30 am until 8:00 pm.

Attractions of Bharat Mata Mandir

Inside the temple, you can find a large India map made out of marble. This map particularly shows the landforms including plains, mountains, oceans and others. This temple is open to people of all religion, creed and ethnicity.

Unlike other temples of India, Mother India is not personified as a goddesses here. The temple was built before the partition of India during Independence and thus, the map includes Pakistan, China, Tibet, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and others. The map is perfect to scale in regards to longitude and latitude. The map stands on five pillars, which represents the basic five element of the world namely, fire, water, wind, sky and earth

If you visit the temple by early morning 7 am, you can witness the national flag being hoisted and by 5 pm, the flag will be brought down. There is a library inside the temple where you can find many books related to India and Varanasi.

Cost / Entry Fee of Bharat Mata Mandir

There is no entry fee for the temple. Paid parking spots are available near the temple. There is no additional cost for video camera.

History of Bharat Mata Mandir

The temple was built and inaugurated in 1936. The temple was built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupta and was opened by the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

Eat

There is no restaurant inside the complex. On the way, you can find many vendors selling delicacies.
