It has been a favorite haunt of tourists since the 1930s. It is a wonderful place for tourists all over the world. Today Kovalam beach is known as the "Paradise of the South". It is warm and clean by the coconut trees and the white sand bed as the sea breeze gently plays with the waves. Swimming and bathing are very refreshing and exhilarating in the waves. Kovalam consists of three following beaches, the most popular being the Lighthouse Beach. The middle beach is called Hawah, while the northern beach is Samudra.
