Villages & Tribes of Orissa

Day 01 Arrival Kolkata
Arrive in Kolkata, meet and greet at the airport and transfer to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 02 Kolkata
In the morning after your breakfast proceed for a brief sightseeing tour of this erstwhile capital city of India covering the flower market, writers’ building, governors house, Jorasankho, Marble Palace and Jain temple. Later spend some time at the Nirmal Hridaya with the Missionaries of Charity.

Day 03 Kolkata – Bhadrak – Bhitarkanika
Dhauli Express        0600 / 1025
Early in the morning leave Kolkata by dhauli express and reach Bhadrakh station where you will be met and greeted by our local representative. Drive onwards to Jainagar and get transferred to Bhitarkanika by boats.

Bhitarkanika is a hot-spot of biodiversity. It's home to largest population of giant salt water crocodile in India. Also home to more than 215 species of avifauna including amazing eight variety of Kingfishers. It is the second largest viable Mangrove  Eco-System in India Harbours more than 70 species of Mangrove and its associates. Theses Mangrove forests are good habitat for King Cobra, Indian Python and Water Monitor Lizard. A large number of water birds visit Bagagahan heronry which is an area of approximately 4 hectare. within the Bhitarkanika Forest Block near Suajore creek from the month of June to October. Most of the Birds are Asian open bill. Egrets. Black Ibis, Cormorants, Darters & etc.

Day 04 Bhitarkanika – Dhenkanal
Today drive towards Dhenkanal via a visit to the Buddhist corridors at Lalit giti, Udaigiri and Ratnagiri. Also visit Mahima Ashram where you could talk to a few Mahima dharma sadhus. The hallmark of Mahima Dharma movement was total renunciation on the part of the followers who adopted sannyas. They were required to travel constantly to beg not more than one meal from any householder and not to stay more than one night in any village. They took only one principal meal in the day time and nothing in the night.

Day 05 Dhenkanal – Bhubaneshwar
After a leisurely breakfast proceed towards Bhubaneshwar via a visit to Nuapatna (Weaving Village) & Sadeibarini (Dokra Metal work village). Afternoon at leisure.

Day 06 Bhubaneshwar – Baliguda
Morning after breakfast drive to Baliguda enroute visit the road side common village, semi tribal villages and tribal villages.

Day 07 Baliguda – Jhigdi
Morning drive to Tumudibandh area to visit Kuttia Kondh village. Weekly market is on Tuesday at Kotgarh. Later drive to Jhigdi Village. Overnight at Village Camp.

Day 08 Jhigdi - Chatikona - Jeypore
Morning drive to Chatikona to visit few villages of Dongariya Kondh and the Wednesday weekly market of the Dongaria tribes. Later on continue drive to Jeypore.

Day 09 Jeyopre - Onukudelli - Jeypore
Morning full day excursion to Onukudelli visiting Bonda and Gadhaba tribal market and few Gadhaba tribal villages , evening back to Jeypore.

Day 10 Jeypore
In the morning leave for Kunduli to witness the Friday market of the Parajas. Afternoon visit of the Tribal Weavers at Kotpad working with the Cow Dung & Caster Oil for the Fabrics & the colour used is the root of the Jungle Trees.

Day 11 Jeypore – Rayagada
Today proceed towards Gupteswar to see a few Dhuruba Tribal village. Afternoon drive to Rayagda. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 12 Rayagada - Chandragiri - Taptapani.
After Breakfast drive to Taptpani on the way visiting the the Jirang Monastery & Stupas at Chandragiri along with the Tibetan Settlement with the Saura Tribes of Orissa. Visit of the Hot Sulphur Spring Shrine of Taptapani. Overnight at Taptapani.

Day 13 Taptapani – Barkul - Puri
After Breakfast drive to Barkul. Boating for the Migratory Bird Sanctuary Chilika Lake is famouse for & the Kalijai Temple Island. Continue the drive to Puri through the villages of Brahmins & Farmers. Overnight at Puri.

Day 14 Puri
City tour of Puri including the Jagannath Temple (From the Roof of the Library as non hindus are not allowed inside this Temple). Later see the potters village & fishermen's village in the vicinity. Relax at your hotel or on the beach.

Day 15 Puri - Konark - Bhubaneshwar
After Breakfast start your day visiting the famous Sun Temple at Konark & continue the drive to Bhubaneshwar on the way visiting Pipli applique work village, 64 Yogini Temple village of Heerapur & Dhauli Peace Pagoda.

Day 16 Bhubaneshwar – Kolkata - departure
Morning visit of the Lingaraj & Brahmeshwar Temples &  Khandagiri Udaigiri Caves & the Local Market.
Check out from the Hotel for your flight back to Kolkata. Upon arrival get transferred to the international airport for your onward flight (technically 30 Jan).
